Campfires and rivers

Standard

Spring is well and truly here and with it a flurry of campfires, our first river swims and a couple of camps.  I have hardly had time to unpack between them let alone write blog posts!…

Last weekend we had a gorgeous time camping with quite a group of friends, a double birthday celebration – which means double cake!  I was so busy swimming, eating cake and chatting the only photos I took were of Ollie who slept outside by the campfire each night.

Then mid week we had our homeschool groups end of year “do” – which meant being at the river again and more wonderful swims.  It is such a joy to have so many like minded people to hang out with.  Those who want to be in the natural world.

A beautiful day, again. We set up a campfire circle then went to swim.

We all cooked our dinner in the fire, including a huge joint stew.

Charlie and Henry have spent hours and hours over the last two weeks around a campfire and when not cooking damper they play with the sticks, decorating the rocks and burning the surrounding grass. You just know that they are having such a good time.

We roasted bananas with chocolate chips in the embers and as it got dark and the full moon rose we headed back to the grass area to camp.  Five families stayed the night, one in a caravan, one in a bus, half a family in a tent and the rest of us slept out under the stars and moon, next to the fire.
It was the most gorgeous night.  I can totally recommend this as an end of year/Christmas party…
